The PG Capital Equity Fund is conceived as an open-ended investment fund to invest in – equity instruments of local companies and in underwriting certain classes of equity instruments.
The Fund aims to generate income and preserve investor capital by diversifying investments across high-value, growth, and undervalued stocks approved by the Securities & Exchange Commission (SEC). Furthermore, the Fund aims to generate additional income in underwriting fees through the underwriting of certain classes of equity and equity-linked instruments issued by SMEs and the sale of the equity instruments later on at a premium to the market. The underwriting section of the Fund is developed in response to the growing number of SMEs seeking to raise funds through the capital market via equity issues. Issues approved for support from this fund will be allowed to draw down a certain percentage of the total value of the issue from the Fund. The issuer being able to advertise this underwriting support on the launch of the issue will help boost confidence among potential investors and encourage higher uptake.
The Fund is tailored to investors who would not ordinarily have access to returns from high-value and growth stocks due to their expensive and scarce nature and need help to identify undervalued stocks capable of providing them with high returns. The Fund will focus on investing in equity instruments in the following sectors: Fast Moving Consumer Goods, Banking and Financial Services, Telecommunications, and Health Care.
The Fund is denominated in Naira (₦) and capitalized with up to ₦5 billion.
